Inbreeding Math This is the mathematics behind inbreeding a cock to his daughter and granddaughters. (A=Cock, B=Hen)
Equation You can calculate the amount of a sire or dam's genetic material in the offspring of an inbred line by using the following equation: (1 - 0.5n) x 100 = x% n = number of generations a bird has been used as a sire or dam
to produce the offspring (This equation only works if the sire or dam in question has been used in every generation.) For Example "St. Thomas" (NL-83-8391269) was first bred with "Platina" (AU-91-1322) to produce several offspring, including daughter, "Oxygen" (CU-93-00392). He was then bred with this daughter to produce CU-95-BVR-4013 and CU-95-BVR-4014.
"St. Thomas" (NL-83-8391269) was used in two generations as a sire in this line, so n=2. The equation then reads: (1 - (0.5)2) x 100 = 75% Therefore, the amount of St. Thomas' genetic material
in his offspring, CU-95-BVR-4013 and CU-95-BVR-4014, is 75% and the
amount of genetic material from "Platina" (AU-91-1322) is
