St. Thomas (NL-83-8391269)   

"St. Thomas" (NL-83-8391269), also called "269", was a  blue cock bred by Mr. Gerrit Spanjaards of Holland. He was a great-great-grandson of the "Kannon" (NL-67-766379), and a son of "13" (NL-82-1322713), who was a four-time combine winner for Mr. Spanjaards.

In three years of racing, "St. Thomas" (NL-83-8391269) won 23 combine prizes, and bred seven winners in three years from 100-500 miles. His full sister, "Peggy" (NL-86-455445), was dam to Ace Pigeon Short Distance in the 400-member Mill Combine. This daughter won against 1,100+ birds flying against widowers. His full brother, NL-86-455472, produced fourteen combine winners since 1988.

"St. Thomas'" (NL-83-8391269) real legacy, however, was to be in the breeding loft. He was a truly great and prepotent sire. He was the sire, grandsire, great-grandsire, and great-great-grandsire to numerous combine winners in both Europe, Asia, and the Americas when bred with several different hens, including H-82-1324222, "Platina" (AU-91-1322), "Deanna" (NL-84-400753), "Peggy" (NL-86-455445), "Super 8" (NL-89-2149028), and various outstanding daughters and granddaughters, such as "St. Joan" (NL-89-2692470).

I subjected "St. Thomas" (NL-83-8391269) to the ultimate test of inbreeding to his daughters and granddaughters. Every bird in our loft is now a descendant of "St. Thomas" (NL-83-8391269) and his original mate, "Deanna" (NL-84-400753)! His genetic package was flawless. He was the rarest of the rare-a truly prepotent sire who stamped his get with his unique mark-soft powder blue, wonderful to see, a pleasure to handle, and a delight on race day. His get are the perfect cross for any other inbred or linebred family.

"St. Thomas" (NL-83-8391269) died on October 17, 2000, in Port Perry, Ontario, Canada. My children buried him in a flower garden beside a wonderful Rose of Sharon tree, facing south, having sun all winter long!

Deanna (NL-84-400753)   

"Deanna" (NL-84-400753), a blue hen, was bred by Noel Coolen, and was the foundation dam to the Spanjaards/Janssens. She was without a doubt the most exquisite hen that I-or for that matter, most people-had ever seen. Her breeding was impeccable, with two National Orleans winners in her pedigree, including the 1975 National Orleans winner against 14,000 birds.

She was the perfect compliment to "St. Thomas" (NL-83-8391269), and is dam to my entire loft. Together, they produced incredible pigeons, including "Zeus" (NL-86-455451), "St. John" (NL-86-455477), "Mustang" (NL-87-1587928), "The Fighter" (NL-87-8717935), "St. Stephanie" (NL-89-2692462), "St. Mathew" (NL-89-2692463), NL-89-2692468, "St. Joan" (NL-89-2692470), "Sweetmeat" (CU-93-00340), "Kingston" (CU-93-00364), "Cobwebb" (CU-9300365), and "Stockwell" (CU-93-00399). Her children have excelled at all distances from 100-600 miles, and "Deanna" (NL-84-400753) continues to influence pigeon racing in Australia, the USA, Canada, Taiwan, China, Germany, Holland, Mexico, and other countries through her get.

Descendent of a line of the greatest of the Janssen pigeons, the "Olieman", "019", "16" (owned by De Prut), plus the 1985 First Ace Cock of Holland, Super 8 (NL-89-2149028) was bred by Gijs Peters from the line of the world famous "Super 73" and the "Van Herpen Hen".  She is the daughter of NL-87-1068291 (bred by Gijs Peters) and NL-85-1689445 (bred by Van Herpen). As a racer, Super 8 won a 1st from 370 km against over 17,000 birds. She has also proven to be a dominant breeder. She is the dam and granddam of over 100 winners to date, in 4 different countries. Children of this incredible hen are proving themselves around the world as top flight breeders. It would be impossible to determine how many top breeders this hen has produced, but it is significant.
